How to Fit Your Number Plate

Watch our step-by-step guide for quick and easy plate fitting

Step 1

Remove Old Plates and Clean

Sticky pads are very strong when applied to a clean and dry surface. Remove the old number plates from your vehicle and use your surface cleaner from the fitting kit to remove any residue, dirt or used sticky pads from your bumper.

Ensure that the bumper is clean and dry when fitting your new number plates, especially when using sticky pads.

Step 2

Fit Your Number Plates

Choose the method that works best for your vehicle.

2a β€” Sticky Pads

Fitting with Sticky Pads

Remove your old plates if you haven't already. Clean the area where the plate will be stuck using a mild detergent or white spirit for best results. Let this evaporate, then stick the pads onto the back of the plate, spacing them equally. Pull off the backing tape and press firmly into place. Take care to get it straight as the pads are very sticky and don't like to move once applied.

Tip: Try to fit them when it's mild and dry as they don't perform well on cold, damp surfaces. Warm up the area with a hairdryer for 30–40 seconds if it's cold. We recommend one set per plate.
2b β€” Screws

Fitting with Screws

Using your old plates as a guide, place them on top of the new number plate and use as a template to mark the correct placement of screw holes. Once the holes have been drilled, line up the screw through the new number plate and into the hole in the bumper. Screw until tight and secure. Do not drill through 3D Gel lettering, as this will damage the letters.

Using a 3mm drill bit (HSS/metal bits are recommended), carefully drill acrylic plates from the back surface through to the front, but drill aluminium plates from the front to the back. Ideally support the plate on a flat surface. Do not apply too much pressure to the drill. Then use the self-tapper screws and caps to fasten through the bumper plastic.

Tip: If you have existing plates with screws, just use your existing plate as a template β€” drill small holes with a 3mm bit where the existing holes are, then screw straight on. Job done.
3c β€” Anti-Theft Screws

Fitting with Anti-Theft Screws

Using your old plates as a guide, mark the correct placement of screw holes. Your anti-theft screw kit includes a special tool that can only be used with this type of screw. Line up the screw through the new number plate into the existing screw holes in the bumper. Tighten until secure with the special key provided.

3d β€” Plate Surrounds

Fitting with Number Plate Surrounds

If you want a more solid, premium look, our number plate surrounds are the ideal choice. They are very easy to fit and provide the most presentable custom look possible. Frames are available in black, white, chrome, carbon, metallic pink and a 4Γ—4 surround in chrome.

Use either screws or sticky pads to secure the surrounds to your vehicle. Unclip the bottom bracket of the surround and slide your plate into the lower opening. Secure by using the bottom bracket and clipping the opening shut.
